DALLAS, Sept. 7, 2010— As thousands of men from around the world gathered at the Fort Worth Convention Center last weekend to receive encouragement and inspiration from some of the country’s most well-known speakers, the crowd of some 10,000 men witnessed a history-making grand finale! For the first time since its 1994 inception, Bishop T.D. Jakes invited a woman to speak at ManPower, a conference for men.

Pastor Sheryl Brady, campus pastor of The Potter’s House of North Dallas, and co-founder of The River Church of Durham, N.C., delivered the historical sermon on the culmination of the three-day conference that ended Saturday, August 28, 2010.

“Somebody is going home changed!” Brady told the multicultural sea of men who cheered and clapped as she delivered a climatic sermon that encouraged the men to have faith and trust in God. “I wonder what God has laid up for you that your eyes haven’t seen and your ears haven’t heard!”

The conference was established by Bishop Jakes to encourage men from all backgrounds to tackle challenging issues pertaining to their family life, health, finances, and leadership at work and home. Jakes is senior pastor of The Potter’s House of Dallas, a 30,000-member church with locations in Dallas and Fort Worth. Brady is campus pastor of the North Dallas location.

In addition to the spiritual elements of the conference, for the first time, ManPower offered a health fair designed to educate and raise awareness on the most common health issues that can affect all men, but impact a considerably high percentage of African-American and Hispanic men.
